Incumbent Republican Representative Melissa Schmidt of Missouri’s 141st District is seeking re-election Nov. 3.

In an interview with the Record, she emphasized her legislative track record, constituent accessibility, and commitments to public education and child safety.

Representing a district that spans portions of Laclede, Douglas, and Webster counties, as well as all of Wright County, Schmidt describes her role as that of a "public servant" driven by a lifelong history of community service.

Asked about education funding, Schmidt noted that she maintains constant communication with the 11 school superintendents in her district. She emphasized the importance of being "good stewards of our public dollars," advocating for careful evaluation of public funding for  private school settings given that the vast majority of Missouri children attend public schools.

Regarding government transparency, Schmidt fully endorsed the Sunshine Law, labeling herself an "open book." She regularly distributes end-of-session and weekly capitol reports to keep constituents informed.

Schmidt said she strongly supports Amendment 3, noting that  70% of her district opposed the 2024 abortion measure. She supports its return to the ballot and is actively asking voters to vote "yes" to change it.

Schmidt plans to expand her local presence by opening an in-district office in Laclede County to supplement her existing Wright County office.

Her upcoming legislative priorities include renewing a push for veteran support bills that failed to pass last session, reforming property tax assessments, and introducing new child safety protections for AI.
