Meet the Record's new reporter, Jadzia Jaynes

Posted

My name is Jadzia (jad-ZEE-uh) Jaynes, and I am the new “cub” reporter here at Laclede County Record. You’ve probably seen some of my stories and photos in the paper already, which is very exciting!

Prior to starting at LCR, I worked as a supervisor at a local tanning salon for three and a half years. I graduated from Missouri State University in May of 2026 with a Bachelor of Science in creative writing, a minor in music, and I have a certificate in editing and publishing. I was an assistant editor for Missouri State’s Moon City Press and helped edit and format the 2026 Edition of Moon City Review.

I have always love reading and writing. When I was 11, I decided I wanted to be an author, and that is still one of my biggest life goals. I am currently writing a science-fiction novel and have plans to eventually start a fantasy novel and a poetry chapbook.

In my spare time, aside from reading and writing, I really enjoy crocheting. I am self-taught and love being able to make gifts for friends and family, and occasionally sell some of my works on the side. I also enjoy being outdoors, rock climbing, listening to music, and spending time with my family.

Some of my favorite memories are from my time as a member of the Lebanon High School Marching Yellowjackets. I played clarinet and oboe, and continued playing and marching in college with the Missouri State PRIDE Band for two years.

Some additional fun facts about me: My name (as well as my brothers’ names) come from the TV show Star Trek: Deep Space Nine. I have a sassy, geriatric rabbit named Penny, and a very fat cat named Calliope. I am a huge advocate for mental health and suicide awareness. My favorite place I’ve travelled to is Zion National Park in Utah, but I also really love the beach, and I hope to travel outside of the country one day.

I’m excited to continue taking photos of and writing stories about Laclede County and our Lebanon community members!
