The City of Lebanon remains without a new logo following a 3-3 vote at Tuesday night’s city council meeting.
Mayor Jared Carr, who expressed strong support for the new logo, said the issue had been much discussed and the city arrived at the new concept after meetings with community members.
Some councilmen said they were still not happy with the new logo. Councilman Joe Berkich said he had heard from residents opposed to it.
The council first discussed tabling the issue, but then accepted a motion to vote on a resolution to approve the logo. Councilman Mike Evans, Joe Berkich and Jaret Scharnhorst voted no. Councilmen Dan Mizell, Chuck Jordan and Bob Garner voted yes. Councilmen Jeffrey Mutchler and Randy Wall were not present for the vote. It was determined that the resolution did not pass with only three votes in favor.
Later in the meeting, City Counselor Chris Allen said he had checked state laws and suggested making the issue an ordinance on the next council meeting agenda. That way, he said, state laws allow the mayor to make a tie-breaking vote.
