Gasconade River Bridge could have new owner by spring

Ownership of the century-old Route 66 Gasconade River Bridge at Hazelgreen could transfer to the Route 66 Association of Missouri by May or June, saving the landmark from demolition, association officers said Saturday. The organization then would have until the end of 2024 to stabilize the bridge. Failing that, ownership would transfer back to the Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT). President Rich Dinkela and Vice President Phillip Denton gave an optimistic report on the endangered bridge’s future at the association’s winter meeting at Route 66 State Park in Eureka. “I believe we’re going to get a transfer of this bridge,” Denton said. “I believe it’ll be May or June of this year.”
