Community gathers at 130 overpass for tribute

Posted

On October 30, the Patriot Guard Riders’ Pony Express escorted the remains of two servicemen through Lebanon and on toward Illinois. One of the servicemen was Colonel Daniel Morgan Jones of the U.S. Army whose final resting place will be Arlington National Cemetery in Virginia. The other was SP Maurice Milo Kendall Jr., a cannon crewman of the U.S. Army whose final resting place will be Marion Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Marion, Indiana.

Lebanon community members gathered at the overpass of exit 130 waving flags to show their support and respect. The Lebanon Fire Department raised a large American flag with the bucket ladder of a fire truck.

The Patriot Guard Riders are a national organization, and the escort of these two servicemen to their final resting place is part of a multi-state relay. The Patriot Guards will carry the remains to Troy, Illinois, where Illinois Patriot Guard Riders will continue the escort.
