Zizzers zap Yellowjackets in anticipated matchup

Posted

WEST PLAINS — The West Plains Zizzers football team was as good as advertised on Friday night, defeating the Lebanon Yellowjackets in Howell County, 63-14.

The last 40-plus point loss that the football program suffered was in 2014 to the Rolla Bulldogs (50-7).
It took just four plays for the Missouri Class 4 No. 2 state-ranked Zizzers’ offense to make a statement, moving the ball 58 yards in 75 seconds to take a 7-0 lead.

On the ensuing kickoff, West Plains caught the Lebanon (3-3 overall) kickoff return team off guard with a pooch kick and recovered the ball quickly and scored again in four plays to go up 14-0 before the ‘Jackets’ offense even saw the field with 9:29 left in the first quarter.

To the credit of the Lebanon offense, the team marched 64 yards in 13 plays as senior Isaac Ledbetter took a 4th and two from the seven-yard line into the end zone to put LHS on the board with 2:06 left in the first quarter.
