With the help of some young painters, a new mural will soon greet visitors to downtown Lebanon with a visual history lesson.
Lebanon High School students are currently working on the project at the Hogan Land Title building, 288 East Commercial.
Eric Adams, an art teacher at the school, said the mural is a way to celebrate the community’s culture, history and students’ creativity. He explained the symbolism included in the design of “Lebanon” on the mural.
“The ‘L’ represents our local schools with the Yellowjacket, the flame of hope and the Joel E. Barber Buckskins logo with as horseshoe,” Adams said. “The ‘E’ represents the magnetic water tower that was here many years ago, The ‘B’ represents the wonderful animal wildlife in this area, the deer and turkey, the ‘A’ is the industry, specifically Independent Stave Company and the barrel factory, the ’N’ represents Route 66, the ‘O’ is going to be the Osage Indians, we’re working with the Native American Tribal Council to get permission to use their logo so we’ve left it open at this moment but hopefully in the next couple of days. we’ll get permission, and the ’N’ is our beautiful rivers and floating along the rivers is represented. Underneath Lebanon is the Bennett Spring waterfall with a huge rainbow trout jumping up.”
