William Edward “Bill’’ Ersery Jr., 80, of Lebanon, died Tuesday, March 5, 2024, in Springfield.

He was born Sept. 8, 1943, in Dixon, Mo. to William Edward Ersery Sr. and Opal Hester Penelton Ersery.

Bill married Helen Lucille “Lucy’’ Jenkins

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Bill worked hard to provide for his family over the years. For many years he worked as a claims representative for the Social Security Administration, until his retirement.

Bill was active in the community. He was a part of various community events and organizations. He was a Mason and Shriner. He was active in Rotary and received the Paul Harris Fellow award. When his son, B.J., was young, he was a Boy Scout Leader and helped with the Babe Ruth baseball tournaments. He was an Auxiliary Deputy for the Sheriff’s Department and a member of Friends of the Library. In younger years, he enjoyed riding his motorcycle and was involved with Run for the Wall in Washington, D.C. He was also an avid fisherman and hunter. However, time spent with his family is what he treasured most.

He was a member of First United Methodist Church, where he also held membership in several committees over the years.

Bill is survived by his wife Lucy Ersery; one son, B.J. Ersery III and his wife Dawn of Lenexa, Kan.; two granddaughters, Emily Lucille Ersery and Katlin Mott; other relatives and many dear friends.

A Celebration of Life for William Edward “Bill’’ Ersery Jr. will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, April 6, 2024, at Shadel’s Colonial Chapel with Rev. Marsha Vincent and Rev. Jim Voight officiating. There is no scheduled burial. His body has been cremated.
