WILBERT WILLIAM HENSON

Wilbert William Henson was born July 1, 1936, in Lebanon, Missouri to Burley Henson and Myrtle Dismang Henson. He passed away in Mercy Hospital in Springfield on Tuesday, October 31, 2023. He was eighty-seven years, three months and thirty days of age.

He was raised in Lebanon and was a great singer and guitar player. Bluegrass and country music were his favorite.

He also liked racing cars where he shouldn’t. He had many stories to tell about his car racing days and could be found hanging out with his buddies, tinkering on cars to make them faster.

In 1959, he moved to Shawnee, Kansas where he was employed for several years as foreman for the Shawnee Mission Parks Department. He then joined Water District Number 1 in Johnson County, Kansas, retiring from this position.

On April 7, 1956, he was united in marriage to Eva Louise McGuire. They shared over sixty-four years of marriage before she passed away on August 4, 2020.

He is survived by his daughter, Tammy Jenkins and her husband, Terry of Lebanon; his grandson, Travis Jenkins; his siblings, Geraldine Perryman of Belton, Betty Kite of Sharon, Pennsylvania, Jerry Henson of Belton, and Barbara Huggins and her husband, Bob of Grain Valley; and many nieces, nephews and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Louise; his daughter, Debbie Henson; his brother, Dwayne Henson; and his sister, Maxine Stephens.

Wilbert attended the Church of God for many years. He was a believer and looked forward to the day he could see Jesus.

He loved his family very much and looked forward to the times they could be together. He will be missed by those who knew and loved him.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, November 4, 2023, at Holman-Howe Funeral Home in Lebanon. Visitation will be Saturday from 1 p.m.-2 p.m. Burial will be in Lebanon Cemetery. A memorial to Adams Place Apartments has been established and donations may be left at the funeral home.
