Tonya Rochelle Huy, 48, of Strafford, died Saturday, March 20, 2021, in Strafford.

She was born Oct. 13, 1972, in Vicksburg, Miss. to Jerry Wayne Hicks and Linda Joyce (Reed) Hicks Koehler.

Tonya was preceded in death by her mother and stepfather.

She was a registered nurse and loved her patients deeply. It wasn’t just a job for her. She was passionate about helping others. She loved spending time with her family, especially her daughter Courtney and granddaughter Ellie. She took great pride in being a “GIGI.’’ Tonya also loved weekend getaways with family and friends.

Survivors include one daughter, Courtney Byrd and her husband Matt of Ava; one granddaughter, Ellie Mae Byrd; her father, Jerry Wayne Hicks of Tallulah, La., and Carol Ferguson (stepmother); siblings, Angelia Priddy, of Baton Rouge, La.; Jennifer Hoban and her husband Doug of Lebanon; Andrea Stevens and her husband Andrew of Oklahoma City, Okla. and Nathan Koehler and his wife Amber of Belfield, N.D.; other relatives and many friends.

A memorial A memorial service for Tonya Rochelle Huy will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, March 30, 2021, at Shadel’s Colonial Chapel with Perry Wolfe officiating. There is no visitation scheduled. Under the guidelines of the CDC and the state of Missouri, the staff of Shadel’s Colonial Chapel ask that you observe social distancing and proper hygiene. The family asks for their safety and the safety of others, that masks be worn. Those guidelines will be monitored during this time to accommodate the family and their wishes.
