Students get access to digital library

Posted
Thanks to a pandemic-related federal grant, all students in Laclede County will soon have access to a statewide digital library. Because of the COVID-19 pandemic, the federal government awarded grant funds to states through the Coronavirus Aid, Relief and Economic Security Act (CARES Act). Out of the $150 billion relief fund, Laclede County was awarded $4.2 million to help businesses, non-profits and government entities struggling because of the pandemic. The Lebanon-Laclede County Library received $53,533.69 in grants. Of that money, $3,483.69 was used to buy 10,000 digital library cards for the students of Laclede County. “The library is very excited to be partnering with the Laclede County schools to provide access to books, magazines, newspapers, research and reference databases through e-cards,” said Lebanon-Laclede County Library Director Cathy Dame. “The CARES Act funding requires that the cost be used to limit the spread of COVID-19. The e-cards allow students in class or remotely, to have access to library materials with no physical contact.” For more on this story see Wednesday's LCR.
