Stitching together Missouri’s parks

A Bennett Spring State Park volunteer is piecing together the state bicentennial quilt

Bennett Spring State Park is contributing to Missouri’s bicentennial celebration with a quilt representing Missouri’s parks and historic sites. Patricia Chambers of Bennett Spring State Park said it was park volunteer Vicky Harding’s idea to come up with a bicentennial quilt. Each site was invited to participate and provide 8 and 1/2 inch squares to add to the quilt. She said most of the squares are in and the quilt should be done by the end of October. “We will have it displayed here at Bennett Spring when its fully completed on opening day of trout season,” she said. It will also be shown at other parks and at the Missouri State Fair in August. Chambers said there may also be a preview display in November or December. For more on this story see Wednesday's LCR.
