Spreading viral doubt

As COVID-19 cases spike, a new billboard questions whether masks work

A digital billboard in Lebanon that was displayed over the weekend questions the effectiveness of masks against COVID-19, asking “What if masks are the superspreaders?” The Laclede County Health Department, however, has a resounding answer to the billboard’s question. “We know that masks do help,” said Laclede County Health Department Administrator Charla Baker. The local health department has been touting the effectiveness of masks since early in the pandemic, as well as asking people to wash their hands frequently and practice social distancing. Baker said she knew from public reaction on social media that there are many people who do not believe that masks are effective.
