Show Me Romey fundraised for autism awareness at their annual gala on Saturday in Springfield with music, auctions, and testimony.
According to its website, Show Me Romey is a nonprofit in Laclede and Dallas County that provides education and other resources to children with autism and their families. Saturday’s gala highlighted the abilities of children with autism in part by auctioning the titular Romey Cox’s artwork.
After beginning the evening with a silent auction, Chelsy Parrack, a representative of a family who has a child with autism, spoke on the importance of advocating for one’s children and her family’s journey of learning how to advocate for their daughter Emma.
“‘Abilities over disabilities’ is one of the ways to teach Emma new things. She has plenty of disabilities, but they aren’t the cause of her success,” Parrack said.
