The Missouri Route 66 Motor Tour came to Lebanon over the weekend. A group, including many traveling in classic cars, stopped in Lebanon Saturday afternoon where they toured the Route 66 Museum at the Lebanon Laclede Library. They also visited the Gasconade River Bridge. On Sunday they visited Boswell Park where they saw the Route 66 murals and the Camp Joy cabin. Also on Sunday, the Lebanon-Laclede County Route 66 Society honored the memory of its first president, the late Bill Wheeler, by dedicating a Red Crimson Maple tree at Boswell Park. Wheeler, a former city councilman, helped the park develop its Route 66 theme. Cathy Dame of the Lebanon-Laclede County Library welcomed the visitors to the library Saturday afternoon. She presented a brief history of the library and its Route 66 Museum. “This was originally built as a Kmart building in 1976,” she said. For more on this story see Wednesday's LCR.
