The Richland Bears basketball teams travelled to do battle against the Stoutland Tigers on Friday, and the Lady Bears beat the Lady Tigers 63-33. With the Lady Bears then holding a 5-3 season record and the Lady Tigers 3-3, the small Stoutland court was packed with supporters from both communities.
As it was Stoutland’s community night, the school hosted dinner during the game. The district also held a raffle fundraiser for the families of the students involved in a car crash the previous week.
At end of the basketball night, volunteer Erin Morrow reported over $6,000 had been raised, with the donations still coming in.
With “Eye of the Tiger” playing over the speakers, the game began with Richland’s #4 Mallory Moss shooting a three-point shot. The Lady Bears took an early lead, though Stoutland’s #1 Mallory Shaw, #3 Cadence Chaffin and #4 Emma Cornelison helped to stabilize the first period score at 10-13.
Richland began to overpower Stoutland in the second period, gaining a sizable lead due to turnovers. In the third, the gap continued to widen even as the Lady Tigers continued to score, leaving the score at 23-55.
