Ribbon cutting for new Independence Bridge

Posted

A ribbon-cutting Monday morning celebrated the opening off the new Independence Road Bridge.
Laclede County officials and representatives of Great River Engineering were among those on hand for the event.
According to Anne Pierce, project engineer, the original bridge was a 1942 60-foot 3-span bridge that was 18 feet wide.
She said the original structure was replaced with a 77-foot single-span prestressed concrete beam bridge that is 24-feet wide. The removal of the center piers allow for unobstructed flow through the stream and prevents debris from piling up and blocking the flow path.
