Community newspapers have played a major role in recording our community’s history through the years.
The Laclede County Record and the local newspapers that preceded it have served the Lebanon trade area continuously for 159 years.
Of those 159 years, all but 25 were spent on Commercial Street in downtown Lebanon. In February 1973, the office was moved from 221 E. Commercial Street to 290 S. Madison Avenue.
In January 1998, the newspaper returned to Commercial Street from South Madison. At that time, the historic Lingsweiler Building was purchased at the corner of Jefferson and Commercial. This building once housed a jewelry store, the Lyric Theater, Homer Thomas Drug Store, Railway Express, Perrey Firestone, Dollar General Store and Name Brand Clothing. Doctor and dentist offices as well as a beauty shop were once located upstairs. There may have been other businesses in the building through the years.
