Preview: Lebanon R-3 District announces school board candidate filing

Superintendent David Schmitz formally announced Lebanon R-3 candidate filing at Tuesday evening’s school board meeting. Three three-year positions are open: that of Charlie Darnell, Merri Hess, and Mary Russell, which expire in April 2026.


Filing takes place, Schmitz said, Dec. 9-30, 2025, opening at 8 a.m. on the first day and closing at 5 p.m. the last day. District offices are closed Dec. 22-Jan 2 – however, Central Office will be open from 3-5 p.m. Dec. 30 for filing submission. Candidates must file with the board secretary, Robin Gower.


The school board approved the following actions at the meeting:


Approved the 2026 Lebanon High School Belcher Scholarship representative: senior Moses McCowan, son of Scott and Renee McCowan. LHS Counselor Heidi Conti explained that the district representative can receive a $1,000 regional scholarship if selected and potentially receive an additional $1,500 scholarship if selected at the state level.
