Former Waynesville science teacher Dan Slais gave a presentation to a group of children and adults at the Laclede County Library last Tuesday on the April 8 total solar eclipse, how to prepare for it, and other astronomy facts.
Slais taught in Waynesville for over 25 years, where he developed a passion for astronomy.
"I bought a school telescope, and nobody else knew how to put it together, so that helped get me started, I guess,” Slais said.
Since then, he has travelled across the country to view celestial phenomena like eclipses and consulted experts on the subject.
