The old cliche’ about the chicken or the egg coming first was easily answered at the Laclede County Fair since the carton egg show came first, followed by the broiler show and then all other poultry.
At first glance, the carton egg show would seem to be just a simple carton of eggs used to encourage the youngsters to get involved in a fair event.
It is all that, minus the simple. The eggs must be from the chickens on the participants’ farm and are judged by size, color and uniformity.
Laclede County Fair Board President Glenn Raef also candles the eggs to make sure they are fresh eggs.
