One of the last Pearl Harbor survivors, Benjamin “Felix’’ Marshall, died Nov. 26, in Monmouth, Ore. He was 104. Marshall and his wife Margaret moved from Laclede County to Oregon in 2019 to be closer to family. He was born March 31, 1916, on the Marshall homestead near Phillipsburg, across the Dallas County line. Marshall was the eighth of twelve children born to Nora Haddick Marshall and Peter Breckendridge Marshall. In 1934 he hopped a freight train to Seattle, Wash. and joined the National Guard. He then enlisted in the Marines in August 1935, at the age of 19. Marshall spent most of 1935 to 1939 in Tientsin, China serving as a Marine embassy guard. For more on this story see Wednesday's LCR.
