Last week, veteran radio host Jim Bohannon celebrated 25 years as host of the Jim Bohannon Show, which is heard weeknights on more than 250 stations across the United States.
But his career actually began in Lebanon nearly 60 years ago. Bohannon was a member of the Lebanon High School Class of 1962 and recalled in a phone interview how his broadcast career kicked off.
In 1960 as a sophomore participating in the Lebanon High School speech and debate tournament, he had to choose to compete in either poetry reading or radio.
“I couldn’t do a poetry reading because that would have stunted my puberty, so I said OK, we’ll do radio, whatever that is,” he said.
He went to KLWT radio, which was on East Commercial at the time and co-owned then by the Daily Record.
“My motivation really was to meet girls,” he said.
