It was raining June 7 as Robert Cruz of Lebanon waited for the anchor from the USS Randolph, a World War II era aircraft carrier, to be loaded on a flatbed truck in Kingsport, Tenn., and begin its trip to Lebanon.
It was an important trip for Cruz to make once he saw the story in the Record about the anchor bound for the Veterans Memorial, located at the Cowan Civic Center.
“I showed it to my wife and told her I’ve gotta do this. I’ve got to go get this,” Cruz said.
