Nadine Elizabeth Massey, 101, of Springfield, formerly of Competition, died Tuesday, March 2, 2021, in Springfield.

She was born March 1, 1920, in Competition, Mo. to Asa James and Bertha Gertrude Brackett Handley.

On April 23, 1938, she married Pearne Wallace Massey in Marshfield.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband on March 2, 1995, and one daughter, Connie Flanagan.

Nadine graduated from Competition High School. She was a devoted wife and mother, putting the needs of her family first. She also helped with the daily chores on the farm. She had unwavering faith and led by example. She treated others with great respect and never spoke ill of anyone. She was incredibly proud of her family and rejoiced in their accomplishments. She loved them dearly.

She is survived by one daughter, Shirley Clary and her husband Gerald of Springfield; one grandson, Kevin Clary and his wife Megan of Columbia; two great-grandchildren, Caris and Nora Clary; other relatives and friends.

A private service for Nadine Elizabeth Massey will be held Saturday, March 6, 2021, at Shadel’s Colonial Chapel with Steve Jones officiating. Burial will be in Mount Rose Memorial Park, under the direction of Shadel’s Colonial Chapel of Lebanon. Family and friends may pay their respects beginning at 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. Friday, March 5 at Shadel’s Colonial Chapel. There is no scheduled visitation. Under the guidelines of the CDC and the state of Missouri, the staff of Shadel’s Colonial Chapel ask that you observe social distancing and proper hygiene. The family asks for their safety and the safety of others, that masks be worn. Those guidelines will be monitored during this time to accommodate the family and their wishes.
