MILDRED LOUISE “MILLIE’’ MELTON

Mildred Louise “Millie’’ Melton, 83, of Buffalo, died Tuesday, May 3, 2022.

She was born Oct. 13, 1938, to Claude Edward House and Lona Claudine (Turner) House.

On Feb. 29, 1956, she was united in marriage to Dale L. Melton

and they were married 52 years.

Millie grew up in Dallas and Hickory County. She was born at Wood Hill and attended many of the one room schools. She grew up in the Cherry Grove community and spent her life there, except for a brief time when she lived at Pittsburg and attended Hermitage High School. She graduated from Tunas High School.

Dale and Millie built Melton’s 64-73 Jct. convenience store in 1980 and she continued to manage the store. She also had a farm and loved to be outdoors with her cows and donkeys.

Millie was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a granddaughter, Christina Lynn Melton; and her brother, Vernon E. House.

She is survived by a sister-in-law, Paqui House of Goose Creek, S.C.; a sister-in-law, Norma Robbins of Phoenix, Ariz.; three children, Mildred “Pud” Webb and companion Donnie McDaniel, Ronnie and wife Patrice Melton, and Donnie and wife Teresa Melton; ex-son-in-law, Mike Webb; and ex-daughter-in-law Debbie Mount; nine grandchildren, Amanda Walker, Mark Webb, Ronnie Dale Melton, Kevin Webb, Lindsay Barnhouse, Rebecca Nicholson, Alicia Melton, Morgan Noblitt, and Ryan Melton; 11 great-grandchildren; and her dog, Razor, also other family and friends.

Funeral services for Mildred Louise “Millie’’ Melton will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, May 7, 2022, in the New Hope Baptist Church near Buffalo with John Long officiating.

Burial will be in the New Hope Cemetery under the care and direction of the Cantlon-Otterness & Viets Funeral Home of Buffalo.

Visitation was from 6-8 p.m. Friday in the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the New Hope Upkeep Fund.
