Captain Melvin Joe Hawkins 98, formerly of Stoutland, was born Nov. 19, 1925, in Kennett, Mo. to Robert and Ella Hawkins and died Monday, Oct. 7, 2024, at the home of his daughter in Staten Island, N.Y.
He is survived by his brother, Bill; his sister, June; as well as his children, Ron and Shirley Hawkins, Steve and Brenda Hawkins, Phil and Pat Hawkins, T.R. Hawkins, Carolyn Martin, Susan Johnson, Sharon and Dominick Bertucci, Jackie and Bryant Pantano, and JoAnn and Steve Baker; a number of grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
A memorial graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, Nov. 15, 2024, at Stoutland Cemetery with military honors provided by the United States Navy and Army, under the direction of Shadel’s Colonial Chapel of Lebanon.
