Marshfield wins in close game

MARSHFIELD — It came down to the final possessions of the contest, but the first win of the 2020-21 season will have to wait for the Lebanon boys’ basketball team as the Marshfield Blue Jays won on Monday, 31-26. In a low-scoring affair, the Yellowjackets trailed by three points with just 1:20 remaining. After stalling and trying to hold for the last shot to potentially tie the game, senior Tyler Williamson attempted a shot in the paint with 30 seconds left, but was swatted away by two Blue Jay defenders. With Williamson double teamed, Lebanon head coach Bill Brown pleaded for a timeout multiple timeouts before the shot was up, but the officials were unable to hear Brown and did not award him the timeout. Marshfield standout Payton McBride would proceed to knock down both free throws to ice the game. For more on this story see Saturday's LCR.
