Marijuana rezoning fails

Posted

The Lebanon City Council failed to approve a proposed rezoning for property at 130 West Fremont at Monday night’s Council meeting.
The second reading for the rezoning, which could have allowed a marijuana facility at the property, failed for lack of a motion.  The first reading was approved at the previous council meeting.
This came after residents appeared at Monday night’s meeting to speak against the rezoning.
Paul Lindsey told the Council he was adamantly opposed to the rezoning for a marijuana facility.
“I feel it’s much too close to the location of our new school and it would send the wrong message to the many, many children and visitors to our community,” Lindsey said. “Located on a main highway,  I’m confident this would be what Lebanon is soon known as. Is that really what we want the image of this town to be?”
Lindsey said he lived about three blocks from the proposed location and was concerned about the odor from marijuana production.
