Marie Lavon Akers, 83, of Long Lane, died Wednesday afternoon, Feb. 17, 2021, at Cox South Hospital in Springfield.
She was born June 18, 1937, in Garnett, Kan. to Ralph and Laura Porter Ruby.
On Dec. 29, 1955, she married Glenn Darrell Akers, and to this union one daughter and three sons were born.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a son-in-law, Richard Frank; a brother, Larry; and two sisters, Charolette and Sylva.
Marie was born and raised in Garnett, Kan. and graduated from Garnett High School in the Class of 1955. She first met Glenn in sixth grade and they married soon after they graduated from high school. Glen joined the Air Force and they moved according to orders from the Air Force, eventually making their home in Long Lane, Mo. She worked for the H.D. Lee Company for a short time. She then fulfilled a lifelong dream of going to nursing school and becoming a Licensed Practical Nurse, working in labor and delivery at the local hospital. She then retired in later years from a local doctor’s office. Through the years, Marie was always a devoted homemaker to her husband and family.
Marie had made her profession of faith in Christ and was a member of First Baptist Church of Conway.
She is survived by her husband Glenn of the home; a daughter, Rhonda Frank of Phillipsburg; three sons, Stanley Akers and his wife Tina of Long Lane; Rick Akers and his wife Pamela of Lebanon, and Scott Akers and his wife Kim of Sleeper, Mo.; eight grandchildren, Ryan, Jaime, Shane, Stephanie, Lacey, Amber, Brandon, and Aaron; nine great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; as well as a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral services for Marie Lavon Akers will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 24, 2021, at the Holman-Howe Funeral Home in Lebanon with Pastor Jordan Witt officiating. Burial will be in the Harmony Baptist Cemetery near Long Lane. Visitation will be 6-7:30 p.m. Tuesday in the Holman-Howe Funeral Home. A memorial to the Harmony Baptist Cemetery has been established and contributions may be made through the funeral home.
