MAJOR MATTHEW C. BAUGHER, USMC RETIRED

Major Matthew C. Baugher, USMC Retired, 54, of Lebanon, died Monday morning, April 13, 2020, at his home.

He was born April 1, 1966, in Keokuk, Iowa, to Chuck and Nancy Baugher.

On May 28, 1988, he married Lisa Rosenboom.

He was born and raised in Iowa and after graduating from high school, he attended Iowa State University on an ROTC scholarship, and graduated with a Bachelor’s of Science in History in 1988. He was commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant in the United States Marine Corps on May 21, 1988.Through the years, he was stationed in various places including Quantico, Va., Okinawa, Japan, Palms, Calif. and Camp LeJeune, N.C. He served as a communications officer and was deployed to Kuwait and Saudi Arabia in Operation Desert Storm in 1990-1991. He then served as the CO/Director of the Marine Corps Communication Electronic Operations School MCCES. He was medically discharged on June 1, 2003, after his brain tumor diagnosis. Matt, Lisa, and the family moved to a farm outside of Lebanon in 2003 where he owned a firearms training company.

Matt was an active member of First Baptist Church in Lebanon where he sang in the choir, served as a deacon, and participated in mission trips to India.

He is survived by his wife Lisa; his daughter, Rebecca Baugher of Rogers, Ark.; his two sons, Jacob Baugher and James Baugher of the home; his parents, Chuck and Nancy Baugher of Keokuk, Iowa; three sisters, Cynthia Wine of Miami Lakes, Fla. and Cassie Baugher of Sacramento, Calif., and Ellen Day of Buffalo Grove, Ill.; a number of nieces and nephews and many, many friends.

Services for Major Matthew C. Baugher USMC Retired will be announced by Holman-Howe Funeral Home at the conclusion of gathering restrictions due to the COVID-19 virus, under the direction of Holman-Howe Funeral Home of Lebanon. Friends may sign the guestbook at the funeral home. Memorial contributions to Folds of Honor Scholarship Fund may be made through the funeral home.
