A Lebanon man has been charged in the Tuesday shooting death of a Springfield man.

Nicholas Barnes, 24, was charged Thursday by Greene County prosecutors with second-degree murder and armed criminal action. Barnes is currently being held in the Greene County Jail with bond denied, according to court records.

At about 12:19 p.m. Sept. 1, Springfield Police officers responded to a house on North Robberson in Springfield for a report of gunshots coming from inside the home. When officers arrived, they found Shad Brown, 39, of Springfield, dead inside the home with “apparent gunshot wounds,” according to the Springfield Police Department.

Witnesses reported seeing a man with a gun flee the scene in a U-Haul truck. The truck, which was later found to have been rented by Barnes, was located at a Lebanon motel on Wednesday.

On Thursday, officers arrested Barnes, according to the police.

In court documents, police say that Barnes was upset that his ex-girlfriend and Brown were dating.

Barnes, who does not have counsel at this time, is set to next appear in Greene County Court on Sept. 16 for a counsel status hearing, according to court records.
