Local families prepare their entries for the upcoming Laclede County Fair next week

Posted

Nothing screams summer like a busy show schedule at a county fair. With the Laclede County Fair coming up just next week, many families in the county are preparing their entries and
dreaming of taking home Grand Champion.
“I can’t wait for the fair in Lebanon,” said Whitley Dame, age eight. “It’s exciting because I like animals. I like training them and working with them.”
Whitley, who named her sheep Reba after Reba McEntire, has been in the showing competitions for three years now. The Conway third grader and her little brother, Jayden, are
both showing this year.
“Last weekend was my first time ever showing,” Jayden said. “My sheep’s name is Homer the Gomer.”
Jayden, 5, is in kindergarten at Conway and according to his father, Matt Dame, he was a bit timid around the animals when they first started.
