LHS wrestling teams qualify 18 for state

The Lebanon High School boys’ wrestling team finished third in the Missouri Class 4 District 3 tournament last Friday and Saturday at Nixa High School.  The Yellowjackets finished with 155.5 team points. Ozark won the district with 176 team points, while Nixa was runner-up with 160 team points. After moving up to a loaded Class 4, the ‘Jackets still managed to qualify seven wrestlers to the state tournament on February 17-19 in Columbia. Sophomore Drew Bowling won a district championship at 132 pounds, and Colt Heisz won his bracket at 220 pounds.  Bowling defeated Nixa’s Aidan Ward in a 6-1 decision, while Heisz pinned Hank Natali of Lee’s Summit North in the first period. Davis Joiner took second in the 126-pound bracket, falling to Peyton Moore by a 13-6 decision. Cade Muscia lost a 4-2 decision to Luca Riley of Belton in the 182-pound championship. Zack Smith fell 5-2 to John Gholson of Nixa in the 285-pound title bout to earn runner-up. Micah Perryman (106) and Taydem Johnson (138) finished 4th and also punched their tickets to the state tournament. For more on this story see Wednesday's LCR.
