LHS softball coach Stan Crum is retiring

Posted

After a season in which his team went 18-9 and finished in the top half of the Ozark Conference, coach Stan Crum announced his retirement from coaching and education last week.

Crum had served as the Lebanon High School softball coach for five seasons and was an assistant coach for the girls’ basketball team.

“Throughout my five seasons, I have been extremely blessed to spend time with some of the most talented softball players in my career,” Crum stated. “We came very close to district championships two times and have won or finished high in several tournaments over the years. In my first season, we beat Jefferson City for the first time in program history.

“We set several team program records and had many players break or tie program records. Last season, we had the best year since the 1998 Final Four team. The next coach to take the helm should be poised for a couple of good years with the talent we have returning the next few seasons. I also enjoyed my tenure as the freshman girls’ basketball coach. Among the many memories I take with me is the time I spent coaching with one of the most successful coaches I have ever had the pleasure to work with, Hall of Famer Jacky Payne. It was an honor to be on the court with him when he was recognized for winning his 600th game.”
