Lebanon wrestling team competes in Black and Gold scrimmage

On Tuesday night at the Lebanon wrestling Fieldhouse, it was a crowded house as the boys’ and girls’ wrestling teams competed in the annual Black and Gold scrimmage to determine varsity spots.

The girls’ team is coming off their second state championship in three years and returns nearly everyone in their lineup from a year ago.

Winners on the girls’ side from Tuesday’s scrimmage included Lillian Cottongim (100 pounds), Adeline Cottongim (105 pounds), Jessa Joiner (110 pounds), McKenzie Gormley (115 pounds), Kaylyn Rogers (120 pounds), Halea Bartel (125 pounds), Quincey Glendenning (130 pounds), Dream Cunningham (135 pounds), Taylor Johnson (141 pounds), Darby Neely (149 pounds), Jasmine Alley (159 pounds), MaKenna Lucas (174 pounds), Marilyn Durbin (195 pounds), and Mariyah Brumley (235 pounds).

Bartel finished last year as a state runner-up, Bailey Joiner finished third at state, and Glendenning was a state champion her freshman season. Johnson also brought home third while Brumley placed fifth. Rogers was a state qualifier, Cunningham was a state runner-up her freshman year, and Lillian Cottongim recorded 33 wins in 2020-21.

“Our goal is to repeat as state champions,” Roark said of the girls’ team. “They know what it takes to win, and they’ll do everything they have to in order to get back to the top of the podium this year.”

Winners on the boys’ side included Micah Perryman (106), Jonathan Perryman (113), Canon Roark (126), Drew Bowling (132), Taydem Johnson (138), Robert Garner (145), Andrew Dent (152), Jax Glendenning (160), Connor Brand (170), Mason Hendricks (182), Cade Muscia (195), Jayden Hubler (220), and Zack Smith (285).
