The Lebanon High School volleyball team improved to 6-1-1 on the season after beating two formidable Central Ozark Conference opponents in the Republic Tigers and Branson Pirates this week.

Lebanon beat Republic in four sets on Tuesday night (25-8, 25-23, 17-25, 25-20), and head coach Jenny Collins was pleased with the girls’ performance in their season opener.

“Republic is a very athletic team and has a lot of hitting power all across the front line,” she said after the win. “We knew going into the match that we would have to serve aggressively and control the ball so that we, in turn, could attack aggressively as well to keep them out of sync as much as possible. Overall, I think we did a nice job of this.”

The team’s middle blockers in seniors Destiny Zimdars and Karagan Bean did a nice job at the net, as Zimdars recorded two blocks and Bean had one.

“I thought those two did a tremendous job closing to our pin blockers, and we were able to put some stops on their hitters right from the start. We've had some of our smaller blockers come up big with a few points,” mentioned Collins. “I also thought Myah and Chloe Shivers are starting to see hard work pay off after putting in some extra work in the blocking aspect.

“Defensively, when our blockers are doing their job, it makes it a lot easier for our defenders to get the opportunity for good reads.”

Freshman Addy Rebmann led the way for LHS with 17 kills while Hough added 14, and Shivers had six kills, 23 assists, and three aces, respectively. Senior Jocee Pettyjohn had 27 digs while Hough came up with 24.
