The girls’ tennis season is wrapping up with district play taking place last Friday and throughout this week.

The Lebanon High School girls’ tennis team (9-9 overall) hosted the Missouri Class 2 District 5 individual tournament on Friday.

Lebanon had multiple all-district performers, including Abbey Twenter in singles play (4th place). Twenter beat Lucy Hershenshon from West Plains in her opening match (7-5, 6-4) before losing to Chloe Stenger (Glendale) in the semifinals (6-1, 6-0) and Faith Taylor (Rolla) in the third-place match (8-3).

Payton Fuller and Emma Blair teamed up to place third in districts, defeating Highwood/Blake (Camdenton) by a score of 6-1, 6-1. In the semifinals, the duo fell to Beatty/Edwards (Glendale) 2-6, 0-6, and beat Carlin/Barber (Branson) 8-1 to end their day.

“We had a great day and were close to getting some kids to state,” Lebanon head coach Ron Crowell said. “Abbey Twenter played great tennis, finishing fourth. Emma and Payton also played great and had a big 8-1 win over Branson to take third.

“I was super proud of this team. We played some of our best tennis of the season. Abbey, Payton, and Emma all qualified for all-district.”
