The Lebanon Yellowjackets boys’ soccer team is still searching for their first district championship in program history.

Wednesday, they’ll get their chance at history when they face off against the Rolla Bulldogs at 6 p.m. at Yellowjacket Field by Boswell Elementary.

“This is a special group,” head coach Matt Jernigan said after a 3-0 win over the Marshfield Bluejays in the semifinal game on Monday night. “It (the success) has been building for a while in the program. We have been getting athletes out, and we had never been to a district championship before last year, so I think there were some nerves.

“We know now that we can compete, and we know we have a shot, so I expect our boys to come out fired up.”

The Yellowjackets wasted no time against the Blue Jays, scoring their first goal in the first ten minutes of the game after Austin Westerlund found the back of the net on a loose ball and converted.

Minutes later, senior captain Zach Richards did what he has done so often in his career and got on a fast break and beat the keeper to extend the lead 2-0 heading into halftime.
