Community members will be able to watch the Lebanon Area Homeschool Drama Troupe’s take on variety show fun, “Murder at the Goon Show,” this Thursday and Friday at 7 p.m. in the Cowan Civic Center Theatre. The play, which is the latest production of the LAHD Troupe, revolves around a murder mystery in the middle of a variety show. Director Beth Brady described it as a parody of such variety shows as “The Gong Show.” The troupe chose the play in part becasue of its combatibility with the group’s large cast requirements as well as its “uplifting” story and fun characters, Brady said. In a preview of scenes, the Record watched one scene that showcased the dynamics of the variety show’s contestants and another in which a contestant tried out his accordion skills. Afterwards, members of the cast spoke on their time producing the play. For Senior Arabella Gatto, this will be her last production with the troupe. Her role as the assistant of the variety show’s producer is much bigger than her previous roles in the five productions she has worked on. While Gatto is not likely to pursue an acting career after graduation, she has enjoyed her time with the troupe. Freshman Shannyn Montrose plays a Russian punk and actress working as a donut waitress for her acting debut. After trying out due to her parents’ suggestion, she said her experience with the troupe has been great and, ironically, drama free. She advises playgoers to look out for the subtle actions in the play. Doors will open one hour before show time, according to the troupe’s press release. At the door tickets are $7 per person or $35 per family pass (one household for any or all performances). For more ticketing options, readers may visit the Lebanon Area Homeschoolers website.
