Lebanon girl dies in hit and run accident

Balloons and a teddy bear now mark the scene where a 12-year-old Lebanon girl lost her life in a hit and run accident Saturday evening.
Sept. 28 at around 7:33 p.m. Lebanon Officers were notified of the accident involving a pedestrian  at the intersection of North Highway 5 and N. Adams Street at about 7:33 p.m. Police said the 12-year-old female who was transported to Mercy Hospital in serious condition and was later pronounced deceased.
Police said that according to witnesses, the child was retrieving a ball from the road when she was hit.
The vehicle that struck the girl left the scene of the accident and was described as being a black or dark colored Chevrolet truck, possibly blue, last seen going northbound on Highway 5 after the accident occurred.  Police said the truck may be a four door with chrome and running lights on the front. 
“We are currently asking the community to help us locate this truck and the person driving it,” according to a press release from the police department. “If anyone has information regarding this incident or sees a vehicle matching the above description with obvious front end damage, please contact your local law enforcement agency.”

The accident is being investigated by the Lebanon Police Department’s Accident Reconstruction Team. 
The scene at the intersection of North Highway 5 and North Adams Street was decorated Monday morning with balloons, well wishes and a teddy bear.
Police also said a witness claims to have a partial plate and followed someone, but this is still under review to determine the accuracy of the witness.

Jailei Luke, 12, of Lebanon, is survived by her parents, April and Joshua Luke, of Lebanon; three sisters, Isabella, Chloe, and Maylee Luke, all of Lebanon; her maternal grandparents, Maxine and James Sherrer, of Lebanon; her paternal grandmother, Theresa Breaux, of the State of Louisiana; Several Aunts, Uncles, and Cousins; her Godfather, James Lewis Sherrer, of Lebanon; special friends, Hope and Justin Tuebner, of Lebanon; as well as many other relatives and friends.
Arrangements are incomplete at this time and will be announced by Holman-Howe Funeral Home of Lebanon.
