Lebanon can’t be stopped in victory over Hillcrest

Posted

It has been precisely 280 days since the Lebanon Yellowjackets last played a football game that counted.

If you were in attendance at a full-capacity ‘Jacket Stadium on Friday night, you know how dominant Lebanon (1-0 overall) was on both sides of the ball in their season-opening win over the Hillcrest Hornets (0-1 overall), 56-6.

“I am very pleased, and we had an outstanding start to the year in all three facets,” head coach Will Christian said in his postgame interview. “We had a lot of kids contribute (on Friday) on both sides of the football. We had great special teams play.

“Any time you start the year on this note, the key thing is we go back to work and are humble.”

The 2021 season got started with a bang, as junior Jacoby Fultz housed the opening kickoff for 98-yards to get LHS on the board first.

After the Lebanon defense recorded a stop on their opening drive of the season, the ‘Jackets needed just two plays to score as Fultz rushed for a 29-yard touchdown with 8:25 remaining in the first quarter. First-year kicker Quinton Doughty nailed the extra point to go up 13-0.

A turnover on downs gave LHS excellent starting field position on their next drive as junior Nathan Bartel rushed for a long gain, and junior Cade Muscia punched the ball in from 15-yards to give LHS 83 rushing yards in just two drives and a 20 point lead.

Things only got better if you were a Yellowjacket fan as the defense forced another punt at the end of the first quarter and set the offense up with a long field. However, Lebanon drove 74 yards in ten plays and capped off the drive with a rushing touchdown from senior quarterback Peyton Mitchell to make the score 27-0 early in the second quarter.
