Lebanon beats Stoutland in season opener

Posted

The Lebanon High School softball team routed the Stoutland Tigers in their season opener on Friday afternoon at Yellowjacket Softball Field, 13-2 in five innings.

The Tigers are coming off a fourth-place finish at the 2019 MSHSAA State Tournament, although they did graduate a lot of talent from that team.

Lebanon head coach Stan Crum thought his team played a fantastic game on Friday.

“I thought we played very well for a season opener,” he said. “The defense was spot on the entire game, and we hit the ball hard all night. Stoutland made some very good plays in the outfield on hard-hit balls.

“We had 12 steals as a team, which is a big number in a high school game. Makayla Dawson had four steals and scored three runs in the game. Her four steals mark the second time she has accomplished that feat, which ties the school record for steals in a single game. Cailyn Willbanks had three steals and scored three runs, too.”
