Lake Regional to display student photography

Textures, the rule of thirds, saturation, depth of field and the Fibonacci spiral? What are they teaching kids today? Karl McKimmey at Boswell Elementary is teaching both the basics and some advanced concepts in digital photography to his fifth grade TAG students. Consequently, when Lake Regional contacted him last fall for some photos to display in their new 30,000-square-foot medical building on Cowan Drive, slated to open soon, his students were ready. His 35 fifth-grade TAG students had completed McKimmey's fall unit on digital photography and were ready to submit their best work for consideration. "We submitted about 50 pieces of work, and they selected nine from (eight of) our fifth grade students. We submitted our portfolio to them in December and heard over the holiday weekend that they had made their selections," McKimmey said. When Lake Regional has its official opening, these student-photographers and McKimmey are invited to attend as recognition of their contribution to the decor of the new medical facility. "We're pretty excited about that," McKimmey said.
