Lady ‘Jackets score consecutive wins against Eldon and Parkview

Posted

The lady ‘Jackets won back-to-back games against Eldon and Parkview Sept. 25 and 26.

As coach Jenny Collins said after the Eldon match, “It is a good night when all three teams earn wins,” Collins said.

For the Eldon Mustangs, it took the ‘Jackets four sets to saddle up a win.

It started well for the ‘Jackets in the first set, 25-15.

“We stepped out overall pretty solid in the first set, and that is always our goal, especially after having the weekend off and playing on a Monday night,” Collins said.

After soundly putting the spurs to the Mustangs in the first set, the ‘Jackets saw the Mustangs come back for an unbridled win in the second, 16-25.

“In the second set, we committed nine errors — attacking, serving and serve receive — giving Eldon those points unearned,” she said.

For the third set, the ‘Jackets reined in the Mustangs for a 25-10 win.

However, the Mustangs fought against the bit in the fourth set.

“The 4th and final set was back and forth with lead exchanges for most of it as Eldon played solid defense and just seemed to pick up every one of our attacks. They were relentless and didn't let balls hit the floor,” Collins said.

The ‘Jackets earned points with their serves while the Mustangs made a few errors before going back to their Eldon barn with a 25-20 defeat for the set and a loss in four sets.

Collins said she would like the team to reduce unforced errors and make their opposition earn their scored points instead of giving them away.

“We did put together a couple of solid, nicely played sets, and it's still nice to not play your best ball and still earn the win,” Collins said.

In this match up, Morgan Durbin had 40 assists and 26 digs.

Addy Rebmann scored 2 aces, 25 kills, 2 kill blocks and 18 digs.

Addy Collins tallied 2 aces and 21 digs.

Saylor Helton had 7 kills and 18 digs.

Ciaria Keeney racked up 7 kills while Raylee Quick picked up 2 aces.

On the following night in conference play against the Parkview lady Vikings, the varsity, junior varsity and freshman ‘Jacket teams were victorious again.

In the varsity match up, the ‘Jackets won in three sets: 25-8, 25-5 and 25-15.

Aces by Coach Jenny Collins’ players paid off on their way to winning.

“In the varsity match, we scored 15 points off of aces with most of those being earned by Raylee Quick, Ciaria Keeney and Saylor Helton,” Collins said.

Kills came from the usual suspects.

“Addy Rebmann led us in kills with 19 on the night. Kaidynce Buttram earned 8 with Raylee Quick and Saylor Helton earning 4 kills each. All three of them were over a .600 kill % with no hitting errors between them,” Collins said.

After a three-match winning streak, for all three teams, Collins is looking ahead to district play.

“We want to continue to move in the right direction and play some of our best ball during the month of October, so we feel confident going into district play later in the month,” she said.

The ‘Jackets have a week off before the October 3 matchup against Waynesville.

“We are looking forward to a little bit of a break and getting back into the practice routine for a few consecutive days.  I think a little bit of rest and recovery will be a great way to recharge before moving into our October month of play,” Collins said.

The Parkview win puts the lady ‘Jackets season record at 13-7-1 and a 61.7% winning percentage with Parkview falling to 1-12-2, winning 6.7% of their matches.
