Laclede County drew 16,878 voters to the polls Tuesday in an election day that was one of the highest turnouts in the county’s history.
The total votes cast in November 2016 were 16,220. The closest vote total to the newest one was in November 2008 when 16,477 people cast ballots in Laclede County, according to Laclede County Linda Cansler.
The county also saw a huge increase in absentee ballots with 2,804 cast in Tuesday’s election, 20 percent of the total vote. That compares to 9 percent in 2016, Cansler added.
