Joyce Carol Schneider, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully at home on September 23, 2026.
Joyce was born on August 26, 1941, in Laclede County, Missouri, to Otis and Barbara Chastain. Her life was deeply rooted in Laclede County, where she was raised and developed the strong work ethic that would define her life. She attended Newton School through the eighth grade and graduated from Lebanon High School with the Class of 1958.
From a young age, Joyce was always willing to lend a helping hand, whether working on the family farm, cooking for loved ones, or tending to whatever task needed attention. She later worked at Mid-Am Dairy, where she met the love of her life, Charles Schneider.
On November 3, 1962, Joyce married Charles, beginning a beautiful partnership that spanned more than 63 years. Together they built a life filled with love, laughter, faith, and hard work. Side by side, they milked cows, raised pigs and beef cattle, baled hay. Joyce devoted herself to family, friends and the farm. Joyce especially enjoyed gardening and was well known for her abundant vegetable gardens, at times nurturing more than 100 tomato plants.
Joyce was a devoted mother to her two sons, Scott and Brice, and took great pride in her growing family.
She is survived by her sons, Scott Schneider and wife Susan, and Brice Schneider and wife Brandi; four grandchildren, Trenton Schneider and wife Nicole, Zachary Schneider and wife Kassaundra, Shelby Schneider, and Mason Schneider; three great-grandsons, Stetson Schneider, Slayton Schneider, and Logan Schneider; and a great-granddaughter expected soon.
She is also survived by her brother, Jon Chastain and wife Becky; sisters-in-law, Marietta Chastain, Becky Chastain, and Beverly Schneider; brothers-in-law, David Schneider and Jim Henson; along with many cherished nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends.
Joyce was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Charles Schneider; her parents, Otis and Barbara Chastain; her in-law, Carl and Fern Schneider; her brothers, David Chastain and Jerry Chastain; her sisters-in-law, Shirley Henson and Martha Schneider; her nephew, Brian Chastain; and her nieces, Cindy (Henson) Vanarsdall and Jill Marley.
Joyce will be remembered for her unwavering dedication to her family, her tireless work ethic, her generous spirit, and the love she poured into everything she did. Her legacy lives on through the family she cherished and the countless lives she touched.
A private funeral ceremony will be held to honor Joyce’s life.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hough Chapel Cemetery, in care of David Schneider, 16 Greenwood, Lebanon, MO 65536.
Though she will be deeply missed, Joyce’s love, strength, and example will remain in the hearts of all who knew her.
