Local filmmaker and businessman Nathaniel Maddux combined his passion for the outdoors with his love of the region to create his latest business venture, Niangua Coffee.
Maddux, who graduated from Lebanon High School in 2002, says his roots run deep in Laclede County.

“I’m a ninth generation of Nathaniel Maddux. So, 1820 Nathaniel Maddux moved to the Niangua River and bough a farm there,” he mentioned. “All of these coffees are tied into this region and the hunting and fishing opportunities here.” Even though his roots are in the area, Maddux has lived in other parts of the country.
After graduating from College of the Ozarks, Maddux moved back to Lebanon to an insurance agency job that he admitted he didn’t enjoy and eventually moved with his wife, Shelby, to Seattle, Washington. While in Seattle he said he was exposed to some cultural differences that not were not available in Laclede County. One of those things was good coffee.
“Something we really learned to enjoy there,” he said. Eventually moving back to Laclede County, Maddux decided to develop and market his own coffee with a family friendly focus on the outdoors and the Niangua River.
