Our beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, Ida Mae Reid, passed away June 23, 2026, at the age of ninety.

Born February 1, 1936, to James and Hazel DeBerry Jones, Ida grew up with modest means but in a family rich with love.

She was raised in Lebanon and attended Lebanon Schools. On October 18, 1952, she was united in marriage to her true love and best friend, Rea Reid, and for the next fifty-eight years they lived the adventure together, building a life filled with family, hard work, laughter and love.

From 1961-1967, Ida and Rea owned and operated Capri Motel on Route 66 as they ventured into business together.

Ida had always dreamed of operating a small gift shop and needing to put two boys through college, the time was right in 1972 to establish Shepherd Hills Gift Shop.

Ida ran the gift shop alone – with no employees – while Rea worked Civil Service at Ft. Leonard Wood. Known for being the “Walnut Bowl Store,” she worked long days to keep the store stocked and open. She focused on offering high quality products at the very best prices, always making sure customers received that unsurpassed service that was her standard and is still the culture at Shepherd Hills today.

“The Boys” soon graduated from MU and came into the business as partners, and when Rea retired from Civil Service he joined the team. Under Ida’s leadership the business continued to grow, eventually having locations in seven states.

In the late 1990’s, Shepherd Hills began to sell Case Knives through their retail stores, catalog and internet, earning their way to be the top Case Knife retailer in the nation, a distinction they still hold to this day. For over thirty years, the Lebanon store has hosted the largest Case Knife collector event in the country, drawing nearly 4,000 people per year to the Case Celebration in the Ozarks.

There is no denying Ida had retail in her blood. She had a keen business sense and a love for people, including her employees. She would be the first to say that in addition to her family, the success of Shepherd Hills would not have been possible without a phenomenal team of incredibly talented people who have made significant contributions to the success of Shepherd Hills. She was a remarkable woman who was a great leader and encourager and she especially enjoyed seeing those around her prosper and succeed.

In 2024, Ida was selected to receive the highest honor given by her community, as she was named to the Lebanon Wall of Honor, a distinction awarded to individuals whose lifetime achievements have made a lasting impact on Lebanon, Laclede County and beyond.

We remember and honor the life of a devoted wife, beloved mother, and cherished grandmother and great-grandmother, whose love, faith and kindness touched everyone who knew her.

A longtime member of First United Methodist Church in Lebanon, she lived her life with grace and purpose, serving her community as well as being the matriarch of her family.

She found joy in traveling to Hawaii to spend time in their vacation home, making memories with her family that will be treasured forever.

Setting her standards high, never fearing hard work, always keeping her sense of humor, along with faith, family, and love, will be her legacy that continues to live on through the lives of those she touched.

Ida is preceded in death by her loving husband on November 29, 2010; her parents, James and Hazel Jones; and one brother, Jimmy Jones.

She is survived by her two boys that she loved so much, Rod Reid and his wife Becky and Randy Reid and his wife Kathy, all of Lebanon, Missouri; six grandchildren, Ryan Reid, Jennie Barker and her fiancé Randy Gray, Chris Reid and his wife Rebecca, Casey Reid and his wife April, Travis Stamper and his wife Tosh and Tiffany Williams and her husband Nathan; eleven great-grandchildren, Jennissa, Wynston, Lucas, Caroline, Roman, Austin, Garrett, Wyatt, Collin, Cahdee and Bo; four great-great-grandchildren, Lucy, Bodie, Rosie and Laine; a brother-in-law, Rick Reid and his wife Sharon; along with many more relatives, great friends and respected business associates.
