GENE LYON

Gene Lyon, 69, of Stoutland, died Friday, Oct. 16, 2020, at his home.

He was born March 13, 1951, in Lebanon, Mo. to Leonard and Zelpha (Burke) Lyon.

On Aug. 8, 1970, he married Judy Hammer at High Point Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents Leonard and Zelpha Lyon; two brothers, Campbell and Burke Lyon; and two sisters, Floye Marie Knapp and Bettie Street.

Gene was raised on a farm near Stoutland and attended all 12 years at Stoutland School, graduating with the class of 1969. He started his long working career at the age of 14 as a farmhand, moving up to many different jobs including factory worker, farmer, grader operator and other heavy machinery, over the road trucker, school bus driver, and retired from WCA after 18 years. Gene enjoyed the challenges of anything mechanical. He could do most anything and do it well. He spent many hours helping start the High Point Perpetual Cemetery Fund and Mayfield Perpetual Cemetery Fund. He also served on the Mayfield Board as president until this year when his health no longer allowed him to.

He accepted Christ as his Savior on July 5, 1970, and was baptized on July 26, 1970. He was a member of High Point Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife Judy of the home; his sons Matt (Crystal) Lyon of Stoutland and Sam (Jennifer) Lyon of Richland; two grandsons, Dylan Lyon of Lebanon and Austin Lyon of Richland; one granddaughter, Grace Lyon of Stoutland; two step-grandsons, Issac and Patrick Peterson of Richland; one chosen granddaughter, Nici Cotter of Springfield; one chosen great-grandson, Sebastian McLaughlin of Richland; seven sisters, Mattie Edwards, Mary Lou Veith, Esther Sherrer, Ruby Noe, Susan Sandidge, Sally Thorburg, and Dee Lyon; a host of nieces, nephews, other family members, family and church family.

Graveside services and burial for Gene Lyon will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 25, 2020, at Mayfield Cemetery, 30445 Shady Drive, Stoutland, under the direction of Hedges-Scott Funeral Home of Camdenton. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the Mayfield Cemetery and may be given to the Lyon family, dropped off at or mailed to Hedges-Scott Funeral Home, P.O.
